Ronald Lewis from California to India for Incisional Hernia Surgery Calcutta India

Ronald Lewis a Patient from California Shares his experience of Incisional Hernia Surgery in Calcutta India.

“Six years ago I had an open gallbladder removal surgery at one of the local hospitals in USA. In 2007 I noticed a bulge in the incision. I had an Incisional hernia caused by the incision where I had my surgery. When I consulted the surgeon in California, I was told to wait for one year for hernia repair surgery. This was too long a wait, so my wife started looking for options in India. She was suggested about the Indian Health Guru Consultants by one of her friends; as she had previously got her surgery in India through them. We went on to find out what they would suggest. After a preliminary email and a telephonic talk, we made up our minds to travel to India. The surgeon suggested having the hernia repaired laparoscopically; he felt it was better doing it that way. Within two weeks of out first contact we were in India. We arrived in Mumbai-India, checked through the immigration and immediately saw a man holding our name and the placard of Indian Health Guru Consultants. We were taken to a deluxe car that took us to the hospital about half hours drive from the airport. I had a laparoscopic repair of the Incisional hernia with an excellent result. Everything worked out well. I had a very good impression of the doctors and nurses at the Hospital. It went well, better than I would have expected. I spent three nights in the hospital, and there were no problems. I was able to walk the whole time. I have no problems now; I feel fine.”

Traveling India for Incisional Hernia Surgery can give you access to top quality health care quickly and cheaply. India has one of the world’s most extensive health care systems supported by a long tradition of health and medicine dating back to Ayurveda. Indian doctors routinely post-graduate train at American and European university hospitals and they are the backbone of both the National Health Service in the United Kingdom and hospitals in the United States. Last year alone 150,000 patients visited India for medical treatment. The came from countries around the world: USA, Canada, UK, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, the Central Asian Republics. Incisional Hernia Surgery in India is safe, expert and supported by high quality equipment and well-trained nursing and ancillary staff. The hospitals in India are staffed with specialists who also act as consultants in the West. Many are world-recognized experts. These are very highly experienced surgeons and they reassure that surgery in India is safe, professional and expert. There is no doubt that the Indian medical industry’s main appeal is low-cost treatment. Most estimates claim treatment costs in India start at around a tenth of the price of comparable treatment in America or Britain. A large draw to medical tourism is the convenience in comparison to that of other countries. Some countries that operate from a public health-care system are so taxed that it can take a considerable amount of time, sometimes even years, to get needed medical care. The time spent waiting for a procedure, such as a hip replacement, can be a year or more in Britain and Canada; however, in India, a patient could feasibly have an operation the day after their arrival.

New Port Patient’s Experience about Hysterectomy Surgery Bangalore India

Abigail Williams a New Port patient describes about her Hysterectomy Surgery and her stay in Bangalore India.

“I am 53 yrs old and have had 4 children. My uterus has been enlarged but stable for years. At my last doctor’s visit, the doctor said my uterus was even larger and to be prepared for a hysterectomy soon. He said we would monitor it, which we have done with ultrasounds and exams periodically. He told me my estradiol level was at the high end of normal and that could be making my uterus grow. I asked him what I could do to reverse this and he said he did not know of anything that could reverse this problem. I researched for myself and found Indian Health Guru Consultants. After speaking to Dr Dheeraj Bojwani and reading several emails, I was hopeful. The entire cost was actually affordable. Indian Health Guru Consultants was flawless at providing and arranging every detail of my trip to India. The hospital, doctor, accommodations, and everything about India were way beyond my expectations. Every little detail from travel arrangements to communicating with the health professionals in India went off without a hitch. The skill of my surgeon and the level of care and caring from everyone at the hospital were superb. After my release from the hospital, our stay at the Indian hotel was like a dream. If you have to have surgery, I honestly cannot think of a more perfect place to recover than India. I would recommend the experience to anyone without hesitation.”

The India hospitals and clinics that cater to the tourist market are among the best in the world, and many are staffed by physicians trained at major medical centers in the United States and Europe. India hospitals perform nearly 15,000 heart operations every year, and the death rate among patients during surgery is only 0.8 percent–less than half that of most major hospitals in the United States. In India hospitals are backed by sophisticated research infrastructures as well. India is among the world’s leading countries for biotechnology research, while both India and South Korea are pushing ahead with stem cell research at a level approached only in Britain. In many foreign clinics, too, the doctors are supported by more registered nurses per patient than in any Western facility, and some clinics provide single-patient rooms that resemble guestrooms in four-star hotels, with a nurse dedicated to each patient 24 hours a day. Add to this the fact that some clinics assign patients a personal assistant for the post-hospital recovery period and throw in a vacation incentive as well, and the deal gets even more attractive. Additionally, many Asian airlines offer frequent-flyer miles to ease the cost of returning for follow-up visits.

Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery in India-Go Get it.

What is Vesicovaginal Fistula?

A Vesicovaginal Fistula is an abnormal connection between the urinary tract and the vagina so that the patient presents with urinary incontinence. The term vesico refers to the urinary bladder. It is the most common type of urinary tract fistula.  This is an injury, often secondary to an obstetric manipulation, gynecologic surgery, radiation or invasive cancer of the cervix. Patients will present with constant leakage of urine.

What are the types of Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery?

Depending on the location, cause, complexity, or site of obstruction, Vesicovaginal Fistula can be classified as:

·   Simple Vesicovaginal Fistula – In this type of Vesicovaginal Fistula, the length of vagina is normal, fistula is less than 2 cm long and there is no history of radiation or vagina/cervical malignancy. Simple Vesicovaginal Fistula is quite straightforward to repair.

·  Complex Vesicovaginal Fistula – In this type, vaginal length is shortened, there is history of pelvic malignancy which may have resulted in radiation therapy and is the fistula is more than 3 cm long. The repair of Complex Vesicovaginal Fistula is quite complicated and can pose a challenge to the surgeon.

 Procedure for Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery:

1. Transvesical approach

This approach is usually done when the fistula is located at the level of the ureteral orifices or higher or if the vagina is stenotic. After opening the bladder, ureteral stents are placed to identify the ureters. The fistula is exposed, circumscribed and excised, thus allowing closure of the individual vaginal and bladder layers. Omentum can be useful to interpose between suture lines to improve healing rates.

2. Vaginal approach.

This approach is ideal for low-lying fistulae with an adequate vagina. The fistula is excised and surrounding tissues gently mobilized to allow layered closure. Immediately prior to the repair, cystoscopy and ureteral catheterization may be reasonable to allow identification of the ureteral orifices.

Postoperative care for Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery.

A light vaginal pack is used for 24 hours. A Foley catheter is left for about 14 days. The appropriate anti-spasmodics are used to prevent bladder spasms and damage to the repair site. Antibiotics are also administered. Patients are also instructed to avoid intercourse for at least 6 weeks after surgery to allow complete healing of the repair site.

What is the outcome of surgical repair of Vesicovaginal Fistula?

Surgery to repair Vesicovaginal Fistula is quite successful. The success rate of repairing a Vesicovaginal Fistula is 90 – 95%. For repair of complex Vesicovaginal Fistula, the success rate is less than 90%, but, for experienced surgeons, the outcome remains highly successful.

Travel to India for Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery:

Several superspeciality hospitals in India offer comprehensive urological services to diagnose and treat stone disease, urological cancer, incontinence, infertility, impotency and other urinary difficulties. Advanced methods such as lithotripsy for treating kidney and ureteric stones without surgery are available with complementary methods of treating stones endoscopically. Advanced machines like the Lithostar obvert the need for anaesthesia in the treatment of kidney and ureteric stones. High tech facilities for the treatment of prostate, bladder cancers, urethral strictures are also available. Investigation and treatment facilities for impotence and male/female infertility exist with specialised facilities for pharmacotherapy, cavernosometry and cavernosography, in addition to Doppler studies for the assessment of blood flow. India is considered the leading country promoting medical tourism-and now it is moving into a new area of “medical outsourcing,” where subcontractors provide services to the overburdened medical care systems in western countries. Western patients usually get a package deal that includes flights; transfers, hotels, treatment and often a post-operative vacation, the reasons patients travel for treatments vary. Many medical tourists from the United States are seeking treatment at a quarter or sometimes even a 10th of the cost at home. From Canada, it is often people who are frustrated by long waiting times. From Great Britain, the patient can’t wait for treatment but also can’t afford to see a physician in private practice. For others, becoming a medical tourist is a chance to combine a tropical vacation with surgery.
